September 2020 - August 2021
STATEMENT FROM THE DIRECTOR
Monarch’s board, staff, and supporters achieved an incredible feat: opening a new school in the midst of a global pandemic. It required bravery, trust, and hard work, but a year later, we have the nurturing school community that we always hoped for. Of course, we continue learning and growing to better serve the needs of children and their families.
After this first year, I feel proud that we:
Fundraised for and offered tuition assistance to qualifying families from day one.
Supported children and their families through a year filled with uncertainties and changes due to COVID-19.
Created a beautiful and welcoming learning environment, including building a bathroom in the classroom.
Grew our enrollment.
Focused our decision-making on the needs of children.
In the coming years, we plan to:
Increase awareness of Monarch in the East Side community.
Grow our savings and invest in an endowment.
Retain and recruit talented staff with benefits and a rewarding and supportive work environment.
Retain families with an incomparable educational experience.
Find new and innovative ways to connect home and school.
Offer translation services to families that feel most comfortable communicating in languages other than English.
Explore opening second and third classrooms.
Most importantly, I would like to thank the families who took a chance on us, the board of directors who dedicated their time and expertise, the volunteers who built our shelves and painted our walls, the staff members who show compassion and care as they guide children through the day, and the donors whose generosity made this school year a reality.
With gratitude,
Julia Kallmes
Monarch Montessori School Director
